Title:
LIRR 340, DD-1, 1952
Description:
Prevosto. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Modena, Pennsylvania, in February of 1952. Shown here is Long Island Rail Road engine #340, a DD-1 (2-B+B-2) electric built in Juniata and rated at 3,160 horsepower. Both units were built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in July of 1910 and sold to the LIRR in June of 1927. PRR "3994" became #340-A, while PRR "3983" became #340-B. Note that the main driving rods have been removed in preparation for scrapping.
