Title:
Magic Mountain 2-8-0 42
Description:
Sitting in the shed at the Magic Mountain amusement park near Golden, CO was 2-8-0 42. Built by Baldwin in 1887 as D&RG 420, it was sold to the Rio Grande Southern in 1916. As RGS 42, it ran until retirement around 1950. It would be sold to dealer Hyman-Michaels in 1952 when the RGS shut. In 1953, it was acquired by Bob Richardson's Narrow Gauge Motel and moved to South Alamosa. In 1958, it was sold to the fledgling Magic Mountain and operated at the park for a few years. 42 would be sold to a private owner in 1967 and moved to Monument, CO. At some point it ventured back to Golden before being sold to the Durango & Silverton in 1983.
