Description:
ICG GP10 8083 with a possible radiator probem in its past, coming down off the Saint Charles Air Line and approaching Alton Junction in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in May 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in February 1955 as IC GP9 9083 (c/n 20162) on EMD Order 5378, it was rebuilt at Paducah during 1969 to GP10 8083. During November 1988 it became IAIS 483.

Description:
A rare double header. The pond in the foreground was dug by the Great Northern as a source of water for steam engines. The crossing with the BN (former GN) is just ahead of the train.

Crossing the Milwaukee Road at North Forreston. An interchange track existed just to the north of the Milwaukee Road mainline and a Martin Marietta Concrete Materials gravel quarry provided the IC traffic in the northwest quadrant.

IC GP10 #8083 - Illinois Central
Description:
Built by EMD in February of 19585 asIC GP9 9083, it was rebuiklt by the IC Paducah Shops in Kentucky in 1969. Eventually, the loco was sold in November of 1988 to Iowa Interstate & renumbered IAIS 483.. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo so approximates were used.
