The Cumberland City turn passes the site of the old Clarksville freight station. The bridge in the background once carried the Tennessee Central's Western Division over the L & N. The Illinois Central took over operations on this portion of the line following the TC's bankrupcy in 1968 before abandoning the Edgoten (Ft. Campbell) - Chapmansboro section in 1981. Several of the old TC bridges survive in Clarksville and have been coverted to pedestrian bridges. |
