| A Cotton Belt B40-8 leads the CHOAF (Chicago - Oakland) downhill at Detour. Originally the route up the west side of Soldier Summit was a 4% grade that closely followed the current grade of US Highway 6. A new double track line with a 2% grade was constructed in 1913 betweeen Detour and the Summit. |
