Douglaston was one of the better areas in Queens, some of its residents being movie actor Arthur Treacher, known for his roles as a butler; concert pianist Claudio Arrau(and conductor James Conlon grew up here); and tennis star John McEnroe, who also grew up here, learning his trade at the Douglaston Club a mile or so away. |
