Here is a photo taken by Charles A. Brown that was published originally in the May 1947 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 6. Photo Caption: "This is a preview of the new Pennsylvania Diesels, a 6000-horsepower Baldwin passenger engine soon to be placed in the Harrisburg-St. Louis-Chicago-Detroit pool. After tests, it will be repainted with gold stripes and keystone like the GG-1's." Pictured here (R to L) is PRR engine #5823 and another "Centipede" whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as 3,000 horsepower BP-60's for passenger service, but later regeared and downgraded to 2,500 horsepower BP-50's for freight and helper service. #5823 was built in March of 1947 and retired in September of 1962 after just 15 years of revenue service. |

Nice roster shot of the Soo 4-8-4 #5001 taken in 1948 just before Canadian Pacific created the Soo Line RR from mergins several smaller railroads. Built by Lima in January of 1838 asone of the O-20 class, it lasted along with its sisters until the entire class was scrapped in December of 1954. Specs - serial #7754, class O-20 75" drivers, 26 x 32 cylinders, a 270 psi boiler pressure, a weight of 445,550 pounds and had a tractive effort of 66,000 pounds. This is an Aruthur B. This 2-10-2 Santa Fe type steam locomotive was built for the Boston & Maine Railroad by Alco-Schenectady in July of 1920. The loco was renumbered 2905 in October of 1940 with a weight redistribution for added branch usage and reclassed as S-1-c. The loco met the scrapper's torch in December of 1949. Original specs - serial #61975, class S-1a, 61" drivers, 29x32" cylinders, engine weight of 376,800 lb, tractive effort of 71,300 lb.
