CEI 2-8-2 #1950 - Chicago & Eastern Illinois
Description:
Although no different looking than the first 10 Alco Mikados built in 1922 for the C&EI, this has the distinction of being the first N-3 class built by Alco in 1923. Although no date was given, it must be after 1941 when C&EI remarked their tenders with the loco number instead of the large "C&EI" letters. Sid Davies photo.

This 1923 Alco built 2-8-2 Mikado stands next to the Danville depot in this photo by Wm. G. Millsap. No date was given but since the tender is wearing the large loco number instead of the "C&EI" lettering, it must be after 1941 when the railroad repainted the tenders.

Although no date was given for this photo taken in the Hoosier city of Evansville, IN, the tender gives a hint. It still wears the large "C&EI" lettering which was replaced by the railrod in 1941 with the loco number. Ivan W. Saunders photo.

CEI 2-8-2 #1957 - Chicago & Eastern Illinois
Description:
With the engineer leaning out his window and a caboose in tow, this 1923 Alco built 2-8-2 Mikado must be doing some shuttle work. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo. Since the tender is wearing the loco number "1957" instead of the large "C&EI" letters, it must be sometime after 1941 when the railroad repainted the tenders.

NYC 2-8-2 #1958 - New York Central
Description:
Nice action shot of a crew member loading the traction sand. Nice example of a 1920 Alco-Schenectady built 2-8-2 Mikado. This loco was a member of the H-7e class and I believe was originally numbered 6158. No information was included with the photo so the date and location are arbitrary.

Built by ALCo-Schenectady in October of 1920 as CCC&StL #6188 (serial #62285, class H-7e), the loco was later renumbered to 1988 in August 1936. It lasted on the roster until retirement in August of 1954. This photograph dated 1/15/1955 shows that it was still sitting in the scrap line at the Proviso yard. Unknown photographer

Built by ALCo-Brooks in January of 1913 (NYC records say 9/1912) as Lake Shore & Michigan Southern #4019 (serial #52787, class H-7a) it was later transferred to the Michigan Central roster in May of 1917 as MC #7959. Later in August 1936 it was renumbered again to NYC #2059. The loco was retired in November of 1953 and sold for scrap in 1954. This photo was taken as it awaited the scrapper's torch in Sterling, IL, probably the last photo ever taken of it. Unknown photographer
