Title:
PRR 5600, BS-7M, #1 of 2, 1964
Description:
BWCX. Here is the first of two successive original 35mm color slides that I took at the Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 26 March 1964. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5600, a BS-7M switcher built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in June of 1950 and rated at 750 horsepower. It's shifting newly-painted TrailerTrain flatcar #550453, an ACF F-89. Since the driving wheels on the steam locomotive called "Nancy" kept slipping off, it became necessary to procure a replacement. This Diesel locomotive was "pinch-hitting" until a replacement was found.
