CRIP 2-8-2 #2700 - Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific
This loco has the dubious honor of being the very last 2-8-2 Mikado ever built for the rock Island Line. Alco-Schenectady assembled it in April fo 1927. Sadly, none of the 240+ Mikados have survived. Specs - 63" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 355,600 lb and tractive effort of 68,227 lb. With an added booster, the te increased by 11,244 lb and when it was converted to an oil burner, the engine weight became 350,500 lb. The loco was retired and sold for scrap in October of 1952 after 25 years of service. This is an R.H. Carlson photo.
