Sweetland. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken from the 17th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1957. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5810 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5810 was constructed in January of 1951. In this context, this A-A set is pulling a mail-express train that's about to ascend the Allegheny Mountains on its way to Pittsburgh and points West. Visible at the right-center are the Passenger Station and the 7th Street Bridge in the distance. ("PrrFan18n") |
