A crew member takes a break while sitting on the pilot of a rare locomotive - a 0-8-2 wheel configuration built by the Grand Trunk Western in 1936-37. This was a conversion of class S-1-h to 0-8-2 by removing the pilot truck which places more weight on the drivers making them more suitable for yard work. Original specs - Alco-Schnectady, 1918,2-8-2, 27x30-inch cylinders, 63-inch drivers, and a boiler pressure of 175 pounds, 52,000 pounds of tractive effort. A note on the back statesd "GTW 3522 0-8-2 converted from 2-8-2 on loan to CN-CV at Rouses Point, NY. 6/1950" , W.G. Fancher photo |
