PRR 449, L-1S, 1955
Hagerstown. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Hagerstown, Maryland, during 1955. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #449, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata during February of 1917 and retired in February of 1948 after 31 years of faithful service. Visible on the right is a portion of engine #115. Accroding to Mr. Jonathan Spurlock, #115 is more than likely a Norfolk & Western Railroad Class K-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the N&W Shops during 1916. The date is an approximation.

Rev. Jonathan Spurlock General That may be a Norfolk and Western K-class 4-8-2. Those were numbered in the 100 series and the number font matches the numbers on N&W 113. Here's the link for comparison: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nw/nw-s0113ggC.jpg Thank you for finding and posting these photos! 2/17/2019 12:37:56 AM
