CN 4-8-4 #6400 - Canadian National
Title:  CN 4-8-4 #6400 - Canadian National
Description:  Although not dated, this almost appears to be the Royal train carrying King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of Britain when they made an extended visit to Canada in 1939. However, Raymond Kennedy (see comment below) pointed out that the Royal Coat of Arms is missing on the nose. The 4-8-4 Confederation (CN's label for Northern wheel configuration) has a high shine not often seen under normal travel - hence the guess about the passengers. Built by Montreal Locomotive Works in June of 1936, it led a very distinguished service and was the only U-4 class member to be saved from the scrapper's torch. In June of 1967, it was donated to the National Museum of Science & Technology in Ottawa, Canada where it is now on display W.G. Fancher photo

CN 4-8-4 #6400 - Canadian National
Title:  CN 4-8-4 #6400 - Canadian National
Description:  The ultimate in streamline shrouding for Canadian National 4-8-4's was the U-4-a class with #6400 being the first built by Montreal Locomotive Works in June of 1936. Anthony H. Perles photographed it as it sat in the Turcot yard in Montreal. In 1939, it was chosen to handle the Royal Train for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of Britain when they made an extended visit to Canada. It also went on display at the 1939 New York World's Fair "Railroads on Parade" exhibit. It is the only U-4 class locomotive to survive the scrapper's torch after being donated to National Museum of Science & Technology in Ottawa, Canada in June of 1967 where it is on display. Specs - serial #68715, U-4-a class, 77" drivers, impressive 275 psi boiler pressure, 24x30" cylinders, engine weight of 280,280 lb, tractive effort of 52,457 lb.

CN 4-8-4 #6401
Title:  CN 4-8-4 #6401
