Originally built by Baldwin in June of 1919 as Norfolk & Western 2-8-8-2 #1722. With the addition of more modern articulateds, the NW railway sold half of its Y-2/Y-2as in 1943 to the Denver & Rio Grande Western to boost their power in the face of wartime demands. Theis loco was sold to the DRGW in April of 1943 where its incredible tractive effort of 114,034 lb helped move very long drags of cars through the mountains. It lasted under the DRGW roster for a short 6 years before being scrapped in March of 1949. Rebuilot NW specs - 56" drivers, incredible 265 psi boiler pressure, 25x32" high pressure cylinders, 39x32" low pressure cylinders, massive engine wt of 526,000 lb, and imcredible tractive effort of 114,034 lb.
