PRR 6440, J-1, 1953
Title:  PRR 6440, J-1, 1953
Description:  BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just East of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 30 August 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6440, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during October of 1943 and retired in February of 1960 after just 17 years of revenue service. In this context, it's pulling a mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West.

PRR 2-10-4 #6440 - Pennsylvania RR
Title:  PRR 2-10-4 #6440 - Pennsylvania RR
Description:  This is a much later (circa 1960's or so) reprint of an Altoona built Pennsylvania 2-10-4 taken around the mid-1950's.With Alan Fricker's help, it probably was in the Altoona scrap line around 1956 or so. Unfortunately no information was supplied with this photo and the number of the loco is unreadable. Glen James eagle eye was able to read the numberboard as #6440. Thanks to all!
